Script Reading and Consulting
Whilst studying for his Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Scriptwriting, Tom gained expertise in the development, writing and editing of screen, stage and radio plays. During this time, he also amassed great experience as a reader through the in-depth analysis of classical and contemporary texts and the provision of feedback on his coursemates’ manuscripts.
In the years since graduating, he has refined these skills further through the completion of the National Film and Television School’s Script Reading and Reporting course and numerous personal and professional projects.
Most recently, these include consulting and offering guidance to the writer of BBC Radio 4 comedy, A Northerner’s Guide To London, reading for the UK Film Festival London and script editing a youth theatre production of The Nativity story. In addition, the development of his projects, including 30-minute comedy series Ley People (ABsoLuTeLy Productions) and In House (MOTIF Pictures), has provided further insight into professional development processes.
While completing an internship at Andy Serkis’s The Imaginarium Studios, Tom’s talent as a writer and consultant saw him read and report on the filmic potential of solicited and unsolicited manuscripts. These included the studio’s inaugural live-action feature, Breathe, written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter William Nicholson.
Finally, Tom is also a highly experienced sub-editor. So, from a quick tidy-up to a comprehensive evaluation or simply punching up the joke count, if you think that your script and its development materials would benefit from a second pair of eyes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
